One of the most important features of the (new) CLAA forum is the improvement of privacy and quality of discussion. While all CLAA families have free access to academic support here on the forum, you are invited to subscribe to participate in a number of private memberships. Here are the details:

      1. Private Membership
Private members are welcome to participate in discussions that enter into non-academic issues that do not directly pertain to studies in the CLAA. These discussions are intended for our friends, to allow us to challenge and encourage one another as we work to cultivate a real like-mindedness by discussion. This discussion is not intended for people who do not share our goals, principles, etc..

Note: If you have subscribed to private membership at CLAAnews.com, your membership will be transferred here. Send me a note if it hasn't been transferred yet.

      2. College & Career Counseling
Premium members enjoy direct support here on the forum. Posts on the Premium member boards can be personal and we're happy to discuss the details of YOUR unique circumstances. Subjects include: Career Preparation, College Preparation and Household management. The CLAA's complete College Preparatory program will be available here in coming years. Again, these boards are private and we intend to provide you with answers for your own unique circumstances here through one-on-one discussions. These may be short-term subscriptions created only when issues need to be discussed.

      3. Tutorial Services
Mr. Michael provides direct and comprehensive tutorial services and constant communication for students subscribed to our Tutorial services. These affordable services are managed right here from the Forum, giving students and parents a one-stop location online for CLAA communication. Tutorial services are available for all CLAA courses except the Petty School and Girls' School. Rates for tutorial services are $40 per week or $150 per month. Students need only subscribe when help is needed. Subscription guarantees students a full hour of direct tutorial support each week from Mr. Michael, along with needed communications (live chat, telephone, e-mail, etc..) that tutorial work requires. This is the best way of allowing students to progress in the classical liberal arts when a parent's ability to help runs out.

      4. Holy Ordinariness
Women who wish to subscribe to BOTH private membership and my wife's private boards for women may subscribe to the Holy Ordinariness boards. Here, mothers can discuss non-academic issues such as: baby care, toddler management, school day management and housewifery.

      5. CLAA Media Subscription
If you would like to support the CLAA's creation and publication of multimedia resources you can subscribe to the CLAA Media boards. Here, your monthly subscription, gives you access to all of our multimedia resources including the music and videos of Jared Haselbarth, Mr. Michael's lectures and videos and much more. Free downloads every month!

This is the second forum the CLAA has hosted for families and students. The first forum was in operation from June 2009 until December 2011. In two years there over 40,000 posts. Users referred to good posts as "gems" not because they were shining brightly, but because they were buried like diamonds deep in the earth. 90% of the valuable information was inaccessible and the point of a forum--to allow questions to be answered ONCE for all to see--was not being fulfilled.

This forum is our attempt to build a better and more powerful forum for CLAA families--and it will be managed very differently from the last forum. Here are some of the most important characteristics:

      1. All CLAA families will have access to academic content only. Non-academic discussions are a subscription service open only to approved families. A number of different subscription services will be available here on the forum.

      2. All users must use their full name are their user name. We're adults and the new forum will expect more mature participation. My user name is William Michael, not bungeejumper63987. Just use your name...you don't need a secret code.

      3. You are expected to participate in a way that will be helpful to others--that's the Golden Rule. Therefore, if you post a question, title the question as other posts are titled so that it can be easily found by other users. For example, if you have a question about Lesson 17, Quiz 4 in Classical Grammar IA, go to the Classical Grammar IA board, and title your post: "Lesson 17 Quiz 4 Question". That becomes useful. Don't title it, "please help quiz problem ???" That's useless. This is a public forum.

      4. All posts will be moderated. Titles will be cleaned up and unhelpful posts will be deleted. Off-topic discussions are getting deleted. The standard user boards are academic and relate to matters of student progress. We're not creating an online controversy center here. Get back to work.

      5. This forum is linked to articles and blogs right here on CLAANET.com. It will become a treasure-house of info and resources with time and we'll be working to keep it all organized and easy-to-use.

      6. This forum will be the central place for my writings and those of my wife.
